Memory Slice

The first collection of short stories No Family Because of Foreign Aggression was published in July of 1997, the year when Hong Kong returned to China. It was a very special historical moment that I never experienced and the whole city was immersed in a delicate condition. During that period, in order to finish the proofreading and cover design for the collection of short stories, I frequently took No. 102 tunnel bus to commute between Hong Kong Island East and the publishing house on Nathan Road. What I saw along the path was the celebration of returning back to China, even the fashion stores were pasted with slogan reading "e;discount for returning back to China"e;. The advertisement board at the bus station was decorated with the portrait of the first chief executive. I held the original copy of short stories in my hand, feeling that my words were beyond my feeling. Therefore, I should not write in the way as before. The mind of seeking for alteration was generated. But how could I write? For the later several years, I did not find ideal ways. Several short stories were under revision at the same time, always feeling that they were not ideal. I hope tat every story can have its own property and different contents shall have different expression ways. Finally, i found it impossible to revise them, which were published after 2000 one by one. These are stories of Land Sinks, Lover's Lost and Small Brutalizes Fairy.
