Ground Improvement Techniques

Due to rapid industrialisation and large scale infrastructure development, there is going to be scarcity of useful land. The general practice of contractors is to take up construction work only on normal useful lands. The otherwise useless grounds like municipal solid waste dump sites, sites with marine clays, compressible soils or reclaimed lands etc. all are now worthy of construction purpose, but by adopting ground improvement measures only. The present book is compilation of many such techniques being used worldwide. Author is teaching the subject of Ground Improvement Techniques in IIT Roorkee for more than a decade. The book has different chapters on various techniques of ground improvement e.g. soil nailing, micropiling, use of geotextiles, use of admixtures, grouting, etc. In some chapters, author has narrated his personal experiences also and give simplified designs for the benefit of engineers community. The book also includes the research work of his Ph.D. students at IIT Roorkee. There is no doubt that the book shall be of great help to undergraduate and postgraduate students in engineering institutions, consultant, researchers, architects and builders.
