The natural and the supernatural converge after Meelah Neegry and her adoptive father move to New York City. Bound to honor the universal law of free will, all must allow Meelah to awaken on her own. Without outside influence, she must choose her destiny. With her heart torn between the love of two, a winged being named Mikiel who has vowed to protect her and Kriyo, an honorable young man from Churria, she struggles to decide between them. However, where there is light, equally there is darkness. Those murky beings slithering to earth the day she arrived are a reflection of the Dark Force, and these shadows hunt Meelah and the amulet that she must locate. This ominous force will stop at nothing to destroy her and her quest. Coping with the loss of those she cares for, Meelah discovers that resolving matters of the heart while embracing her destiny is an insurmountable undertaking.
