Investigative documentary producer Anika Wrenford has spent seventeen years refusing to accept the official story of her brother's disappearance. Then, on a rain-soaked drive home from interviewing the family of another missing motorist, her navigation fails and an impossible motorway sign appears: EXIT 61 — HARROWICK. The town looks ordinary. Its residents do not. They know Anika's name. They remember a childhood she never lived. And when she is sent to a quiet family house, the man who opens the door is Tomas—older, alive, married, and the father of a twelve-year-old daughter. In his memories, Anika was the sibling who vanished. As photographs change, buildings acquire rooms, records contradict themselves and strangers remember intimate details of her life, Anika begins documenting a town that seems determined to make incompatible histories agree. But every question puts pressure on Tomas, his wife Mirelle and their daughter Pippa, whose drawings reveal spaces that should not exist. To leave Harrowick, Anika must decide whether finding the brother she lost gives her any right to reclaim him—and whether the life waiting behind Exit 61 is less real simply because it is not hers.
