The manuscript primarily comprises two parts: the first focuses on the semantic relationships between modern Chinese nouns and classifiers (individual quantifiers), particularly exploring the semantic selection between the same noun and different classifiers. This analysis aims to reflect both the semantic features of nouns that classifiers measure and the semantic categories and features of modern Chinese classifiers. The second part examines the semantic selection relationship between classifiers and nouns in different languages from the perspective of linguistic typology, thereby revealing the semantic systems of classifiers in various languages and the semantic differences and commonalities when classifiers and nouns are combined. This manuscript is a comprehensive work on the semantics of classifiers in Chinese. The first part fully elucidates the author's academic viewpoints based on a review of previous research on classifiers, with a particularly in-depth and extensive study of the phenomenon of one noun paired with multiple classifiers in modern Chinese. The second part categorizes classifiers according to their semantics, such as those for people, general-purpose classifiers, classifiers for elongated shapes, classifiers for animals, and reduplicative classifiers, conducting a typological study of their semantics. Meanwhile, it employs comparative methods to compare classifiers in other languages, ancient Chinese classifiers, and modern Chinese classifiers, analyzing their similarities, differences, and evolutionary changes.
