The story revolves around Grey's great-grandmother "e;Betty"e; Zane, who was a heroine of the Revolutionary War on the American frontier. The central event of the novel is the story of how Zane single-handedly resupplied a besieged Fort Henry with gun powder from her family home, resulting in a victorious defence on the American side. Unable to find a publisher for his book, Grey published "e;Betty Zane"e; himself. This fantastic story is highly recommended for those with an interest in historical fiction and the Revolutionary War. Pearl Zane Grey (1872 - 1939) was an American writer most famous for his adventure novels of the Western genre. Other notable works by this author include: "e;Riders of the Purple Sage"e; (1912), "e;The Last Trail"e; (1906), and "e;The Lone Star Ranger"e; (1915).
